Laptop won't turn on

Hello, so the other day my friend was using charging his laptop and spilled some water on the charger as it was charging. Basically the computer just shut off and hasn't been working since then. He decided to get a new computer and just gave me this one, so I'm wondering what it might be. One friend said it could either be the battery itself or the motherboard. I just want some opinions on this before I start buying a bunch of unnecessary components. Thank you

Try without battery and just power. Try different charger. Try removing keyboard (if any water got on or near it). Likely fried the whole mobo though.

If its just the charger/brick, buy a new one, they are cheap enough and the laptop probably shut off since there was no juice to power it.
