Laptop Wont Turn On

I have an IBM thinkpad T-40 with a pentium M processor. Less than a year old. 2 nights ago it was running then it was picked up abruptly, after a drink was spilt nearby. I dont think any drink got in it (if so it was only on the bottom of the case), but the computer went blank at that point.

Since then it will not turn on, even with ac power. I am fearing the worst... something shorted out. I'm going to try a few things tomorrow, replace cmos battery, remove and replace main battery, but apart from that I'm not to sure what to do. If it has shorted out will there be evidence of it on the motherboard? Should I pull it out and have a look?

You're help would be very much appreciated. :)

there should be a red led on the mb try to open it up and then power on the computer and see if the light is on if not then probably fried.

if this is the case, (when I get around to it tomorrow) is it as simple as replacing the motherboard, or could any number of things been fried? Better to just send it off to Puter heaven?
