Hey guys.
I need to get a new laptop. The question is, is it worth buying a Vista Ultimate laptop with a 64 bit dual core AMD, 2 Gigs of Ram and an ATI Radeon X1600 512 MB (The Acer Ferrari 5005 WLMi), or what?

My mom would basically be paying 2000 on the 2800 CHF, and I'd like to know if it's worth me putting the extra money to get this supreme laptop, or if I should just get a 2000 CHF one, Vista or XP.

hmm id currently go with xp, and if i liked the vista look get the vista skin Kornowski posted in desktops. the reason i would not go with vista is all the negativity i have seen in OS. "my sound doesnt work!" etc. now of course, some of these are just regular problems blamed on vista, but vista still has buf=gs to iron out for sure. heck xp has a few bugs. another seriuos problem i have with vista is the huge space it takes. but these arre just my opinions. is there any other diffenrence, besides the os on the second option?
 
I guess I could just install XP on a second partition if Vista becomes a hassle.

Oh, and do I get some sort of re-installment of Vista disc or something like that? Cause if I create a new partition, I need to format the drive, thus erasing Vista. So I'd need to re-install it.

How does this work BTW? When a company sells u a notebook with a pre installed OS on it, do they sell you the disc to re install it?
 
I'm running vista on my 1.6ghz amd 64 single core with 512M of ram, which received a miserable 1.0 vista score

and once i disabled all of the visual effects, it's running just as fast as xp was

you can always disable all of the vista extras if it's killing your performance.

In relation to vista I completely disagree. I've been using it for a little while now and I personally love it. I'm bias towards macs so I got vista to just mess around with and leave it be, it was on my ne wgaming rig pre installed so keep it, right? Well, I have fallen in love with it. It has all the features of XP, and has been running stable for me for almost a month now. I never reboot (unless a windows update was installed) and it's been running solid with multitasking and gaming. Sadly, my macbook isn't happy with vista since it's been downgraded to secondary computer status since my vista pc takes my love now.

As for laptops check out Sager as well. The acer ferarri is a bitchin laptop for sure, but you're spending a lot where you can get the same or better performance for less money.

I have bought notebooks from both palces and have been very satisfied\

Also, with new computers pre-installed with vista you get a "restore" disk. My HP has a restore disk and a partition on the hard drive to restore vista (i.e. format/install) without a hassle. Having a Mac OSX, win XP, and Win Vista computers all sitting on my desk .... well I'm posting this on my vista PC and my others are rarely turned on. This is coming from a hardcore gamer as well, if Vista can standup to the multitasking and hardcore use I put it through ... well it's a testament for an operating system without many bugfixes yet.
