this is what im thinking, i would like to get a laptop for college ) i will be taking a computer programming course of some sort) i also want to be able to game on it a bit like HL2 and that kind of stuff.. i think that laps arnt meant for it really but is there any kind of way that i can get one that is suitable for programming and gaming? ill worry about cost once i know my options

I know dells are good, but check out this scenario.
3 roommates, 3 laptops, 2 Dells, 1 Toshiba, 1 bad lightening storm.
2 Dells = 2 fried ethernet chips with no insurance
1 Toshiba = 1 perfectly fine computer with 2 yrs of $385 insurance

kinda ironic, ehh.
plus with dells you have to get replacement parts from dell, whereas others you can pick up anywhere

IF size isn't too big of a deal, I would really recommend the Dell E1505. I just got an Acer Travelmate 2480-2705 for free and I just ordered a Dell E1505 because I know the Acer isn't that fast.

It's not a ultraportable, it is a full size laptop weighing in around 7.5 pounds. But I ordered mine from ebay with 2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo, 2G Ram, 120GB HD, and a 256 MB ATi Radeon X1400.

All of that for $1100 shipped... I don't think you can really beat that.

BTW, my Acer is for sale if you want.

You don't find it attractive? :P

If you think my price is too high, what would you suggest? I thought it would be good considering its brand new with warranty and a hundred bucks less, and 1G of ram.

I never said it wasn't a good deal I just meant that I saw it in the for sale area so I did not need you post more about it.

I didn't mean that you were saying it wasn't a good deal. I was just asking if it was a good deal or if I was asking for too much. lol sorry for the misunderstanding. :P

well the thing is that if i get a dell and i want a replacement part then i have to get it from dell im not sure i like that...so weight i dont care so much about but other brands that i can use that would be able to game like HL2 or doom 3 that kind of standard but also some programming on it too

alienware has some nice ones but they have a hefty price...im thinking dell's but the fact their parts you have to buy from dell...and their parts aren't of the best quality...so maybe get a cheap laptop and fully remodel it...get 2 gigs of memory in there, a new processor, mother board, and vid card for about 800 bucks so about 600+800=1400 so whatever you do just make sure you get a good amount of memory, processor, vid card and you'll be set

any new laptop would do as long as its well taken cared, it could outlast desktops

how easy is it to upgrade a laptop ike video sound ram h.d and virtually everything? i know its alot different from doing it on a desktop... and i odnt think you can really do it your self unless you know what you are doing.. if that makes sence
