Last minute memory advice

thanks for the replies benny boy and aastii, cant afford 4gb the now will be upgrading asap but stretching to get the best board and cpu i can, the 2gb corsair kit looks good to me.
 
It is all good it makes zero difference unless you plan to OC. Anyone who says different does not know what they are talking about. Get the cheapest.

Not true. OCZ Gold RAM has particularly high failure rates, which is why it isn't recommended. They don't even make it anymore.
 
thats unusually poor for ebuyer, to be selling gear thats be discontinued, relieved i didn`t just buy without asking for some extra input, ive got an ocz ssd and performs well, guess memory isn`t their thing :(
 
It's probably just old stock...they've got to get rid of it somehow. It hasn't been too long since OCZ got out of the memory game. They did actually have some good RAM...but that obviously wasn't it.

Their SSD's are awesome though.

And what is that failure rate?

Only 5 companies in the world make the DRAM that is the main component of RAM sticks.

Reference the high failure rate. Also with a lifetime guarantee I get back to it does not matter.

Anecdotal means squat.

Roughly one in every 14, for that kit. A little higher actually...I rounded down.

That's not the whole story, though...they also often have trouble running at their rated speeds, for some reason.

Even if there's only a few companies that make the chips, the company with their name on the chip is the one that decides what specifications to put on it. OCZ was pushing the chips in the gold series too far, and probably were not using the highest quality ones to begin with.

Edit: I do not accept your numbers but I do accept your point. I could never figure why "Gold" was budget? Marketing?
