Latitude d800 no sound except skype

hey guys.

i have been dealing with this problem for a while now... and i am basically at a point where i have no clue whats going on.


so !

i have full sound from skype, quicktime player runns sometimes i got it running to night after uninstalling and re installing my stigmatell drivers. and it seems to be working fine

but i have no windows sounds and i cant get my browser to give a sound ether.

i can not get the audio controls into my bottom right hand icon list even tough i have looked and i have it checked in my audio properties window.

i have checked for maleware and cleaned the machine often with spybot s&D...

which now comes up clean. i have uninstall ed all antivirus programs and re installed (its my GF machine and she had 3 antivirus programs running read somewhere that they might have something to do with this... only running spybot now)

stigmatel is the defult audio device both in playback and in record.

nothing is muted ether in browser or audio options... tried 3 different browsers

however everytime i boot up the machine i get a missing .DLL error
stating that Unobi.dll and proto.dll are missing...


so i have officially given up and am seeking help ! :)
 
Those are remnants of infections so I bet you aren't totally clean yet. Please do the following.

Not sure what programs you are using to clean your system but please follow these directions.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here or here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Please keep updating until it says you have the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • A log will be saved automatically which you can access by clicking on the Logs tab within Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

If for some reason Malwarebytes will not install or run please download and run Rkill.scr, Rkill.exe, or Rkill.com but DO NOT reboot the system and then try installing or running Malwarebytes. If Rkill (which is a black box) appears and then disappears right away or you get a message saying rkill is infected, keep trying to run rkill until it over powers the infection and temporarily kills it. Once a log appears on the screen, you can try running malwarebytes or downloading other programs.



Download the HijackThis installer from here.
Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

Most of what HijackThis lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Post the logfile that HijackThis produces along with the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log


Also, are you sure that the sound driver is properly installed? Look in device manager under sound, video, and game controllers and check that there aren't any entries with yellow question marks.

but done the following and now there is no sound at all :) and yes drivers are okey nothing yellow, they look fine
 
Go into the control panel and click on Sounds and Audio Devices, click on the audio tab, what is the default device for the playback and recording?
 
sigmatel audio for both recording and playback

and thats the only thing i can choose from.

but i reinstalled my audio drivers and got quicktime and skype running again..

still no windows or browser sounds...


and the speaker is still not appearing in my bottom right had menu
 
Go back into sound and audio in control panel, on the volume tab, make sure the box that says" place volume icon in taskbar" is checked, also make sure the mute box is not checked. Then go to the sounds tab, and make sure it says windows default under sound scheme.
 
Then I'm out of ideas. Speakers cable plugged into the correct audio port on the motherboard?
