I have a Dell Inspiron 5150 with a 15" xga or sxga+ (can't remember which) and the other day it just went dead. Everything works fine using a separate CRT, so I guess its not an issue other than the lcd (I'm using the unit now with a CRT). If I look closely at the lcd, I can see that it is displaying the information, its just that there is no light (like its displaying it in the dark). The unit is 18 months old and 6 months out of warranty.
My questions are:
1) Is the issue the lcd screen itself, or a hardware component/connection on a board - i.e., would replacing the screen fix the problem?
2) Do you think Dell would replace the part (under the premise that it shouldn't have failed)?
3) If it is the screen, is replacing it as simple as disconnecting it and re-connecting a new (or used) one?
Thanks.
