lcd display laptop - NEED HELP

I have a Dell Inspiron 5150 with a 15" xga or sxga+ (can't remember which) and the other day it just went dead. Everything works fine using a separate CRT, so I guess its not an issue other than the lcd (I'm using the unit now with a CRT). If I look closely at the lcd, I can see that it is displaying the information, its just that there is no light (like its displaying it in the dark). The unit is 18 months old and 6 months out of warranty.

My questions are:
1) Is the issue the lcd screen itself, or a hardware component/connection on a board - i.e., would replacing the screen fix the problem?
2) Do you think Dell would replace the part (under the premise that it shouldn't have failed)?
3) If it is the screen, is replacing it as simple as disconnecting it and re-connecting a new (or used) one?

Thanks.

try pressing the function key "fn" and the up arrow key... I think you turned the brightness down... If it is not those keys look around for the way to turn the brightness up.

The brightness function keys have no affect - i.e., the do not 'turn the lights on' so to speak.

a friend of mine got a second hand LCD screen where the backlight had gone on it, it displayed the images but it was really dark, they are easy to fix if you know how, its not a dificult job. take it to a pc shop and they should be able to do ti.

If That Doesn't Work

If replacing that backlight deosn't work you can probabley just buy a new one off of ebay or something. But remember ya never know what you're getting.
