LCD HDTV as a computer monitor

I need any and all advice I can get. I have a decent computer setup and a brand new LCD HDTV that I am trying to make compatible.

Setup:
FX-55
ASUS A8N Deluxe MB
SLi 2x PNY Verto 6600 GT PCI
2 gigs corsair ram
all else is inconsequential i believe

TV:
Brand new 40 inch Samsung 1080p LCD flat panel. (LN-S4095D)

I have the monitor connected with a DVI-HDMI input and its up and running. I am having a couple problems however. The edges of the monitor are ouside of the border of the screen on all edges. I have used NVKeystone to pull in the corners becuase I cannot find a size adjustment like you would find on a computer monitor. It is currently running in 1920x1080. I believe it is set to HDTV setting 1080i.

1.)I feel like there should be a way to set the monitor to the right size without NVKeystone.
2.) I am having issues running games(counterstrike source, DoD, etc. even in the 1280x720 (i suppose equivalent to 780i or p)

What can I change or is there possibly a driver set i could DL? To my knowledge there is no driver for the samsung TV, but my computer recognizes it has 1080p capability and that it is a Samsung.
Also, will hooking the TV up to the PC by the PC input (VGA blue cable) make a difference? I only have 4 dvi inputs and would have to get a converter i guess.

That's a sweet LCD. However, I believe your problem is most likely your graphics cards. I'm not sure if they can handle 1080i or if they even fully support HDTV. The newer Nvidia 7 Series would most likely be able to handle would your trying to achieve.
 
I havent checked into the up-to-date components for computers sinces I built this one. will the new nvidia 7 series be compatible with my current motherboard and all? also, im not sure if i made it clear, im using the monitor right now, its set on 1920x1080, so its works, but i think it can work better. i know the answer to making a computer better typically involves spending more money on it....sadly...this damn TV cost more than what i put into the comp and the comp wasnt cheap by any means. when the TV isnt in an HD compatible resoultion is when i have problems, the ones involving 480 720 or 1080. is this just going to be the case all the time or what? i was curious if the built in resolution settings for the steam games could even hit 1920x1080 or if those resolutions were merely read from what your graphics cards could handle? im not sure i quite understand the technicalities and i consider myself pretty damn computer literate. how much more stress is this 40 inch monitor putting on the graphics capabilities of my computer than my old 23 inch? (dont just answer the last question...feel free to address all of my problems lol.)
 
If you purchase a Nvidia 7950 you will be able to play ALL GAMES in HD!!

Resolution pretty much ruins your fps as you increase it, and I can tell you for sure that your GPU set-up cannot even come close to handling High-Definition gaming at those resolutions.

This card right here will essentially play every game you want in HD at Maximum Graphics, although it is VERY expensive: http://www.nvidia.com/page/geforce_7950.html

i have seen quad SLi everywhere recently. this dual GPU graphics card 7950, do you have to have a quad sli compatible board or will two of these fit in my asus A8N deluxe sli motherboard? i see they are like 550 each, but if im gonna be runnin a 3300 dollar HDTV itll be worth it.
 
Nvidia claims that it will work with any: NVIDIA nForce®4 SLI-based motherboard. So I'm guessing a regular SLI board will work.
 
oh yeah, im not a complete newb by the way, i know increased resolution means lower FPS, but my computer currently runs a 1600x1200 display at 170 FPS and its not even optimized or tweaked. i just figured since it does that reasonably, it miiiight have been able to handle 1920x1080. am i wrong?


because if theres a way without spending another 600 dollars on a new graphics card, id want to try that first. im guessing the answer is no way no how with my current setup.

When your playing games are you playing at the highest detail?
 
yeah its nForce 4 SLi...hrm...i guess ill start searchin for the best price sometime soon. this is going to end up being mounted on the wall in the master bedroom of a new house in about 2 months, underneath it is gonna be my 23 inch viewsonic and my desk, i want it to hook up to my computer and HD digital cable and a nice surround sound setup im about to purchase.
 
if your planning to get a new card you don't need to get Quad-SLI, just get a 7950X2...it can handle everything you need. Then after you can purchase another 7950x2 and have a quad-sli set-up.
 
sounds like a plan. yeah i had some left over cash from my "educational" fund after college. just started med school. but ive been planning a comp/entertainment center for a couple years. instead of buying pieces i had enough cash to get everything at pretty much the same time. its pretty much the coolest thing ever. on top of that my roommate is doin the same thing, when i bought my tv he got a 50 inch panasonic and is runnin all kinds of stuff on it too. people probably think we're drug dealers
 
lol, ya....soon enough I hope to have my own massive entertainment system. I can picture it now....60" Samsung Plasma HDTV, 7.1 Surround Sound, Blu-Ray DVD Player, PS3 + Xbox 360, and of course my PC :)
 
another question, this new dual GPU, is that gonna solve my problem with the screen hanging about an inch over on all four sides? (aka my taskbar and icons are off the screen and whatnot) i ask this because i can fix it with NVKeystone but does having NVkeystone activated suck up FPS? or does it disable when you start a full screen program(aka a game)?
 
i would have bought a blu ray player but itll be about half the price at this point to buy a ps3. i think when ps3 comes out a blu ray player will be about 3 or 4 hundred. supposedly EVERY dvd technology new has been around a grand...and worked is way down to about 100 bucks over a year or two....even the upscaling dvd players that are 120 bucks were 1000 when the first one came out. AND the samsung player is supposedly buggy as hell...at best buy near me they said they have only sold one and the person returned it.

Are you sure that your set resolution is correct? I can't guarantee that it will work but I will guarantee that the 7950X2 will be able to handle any game you throw at it, even on a 50" LCD. Not to mention, its specfically designed to handle High-Definition processes and would also have many more features than the 6600Gt you currently own.
