Recently I have been searching for some "Affordable" LCDs to replace my 22" Monitor. In order to meet my standards I need a monitor that will be viewable from about 2-4 feet away when searching the web in my recliner. My career is web design so this means that I WILL need to read all of the text. I have compiled a list of three major brand name 40" LCDs that are affordable and I hear most "bang" for my buck. It is completely important that they can connect to my computer. I will be doing anything from watching movies, to playing high end video-games and WEB DESIGN!

I'd say go with one of the two cheaper ones, unless you also plan to be watching lots of shows/movies on it. If you will, then get the Samsung because that contrast ratio will be killer on it, but otherwise I'd stick with the Sony.
 
If you are not going to be using the HDMI inputs then the Sony saves on price as well as seeing the VGA(HD-15) item as well as the higher priced Samsung model. The Toshiba suffers that way while having 3HDMI inputs like the Samsung.

The Samsung not only sees the widest range of resolutions available but also sees the higher Contrast ratio over the Sony. There's no mention on the Toshiba model while that as well as the Samsung lists supported computer resolutions. Soecifications seen at each manufacturer's own site would provide additional information there.
 
Heres an earlier version of a Samsung LCD ... basically the same as the more expensive one, except for the contrast. Still blows Sony's contrast away.

Alienware also charges through the roof! That's one thing to consider there. Some of their older custom gaming laptops ran as high as $5,000! :eek: !

But between the three particular models there by the three brands the obvious choice is also priced higher then the other two. That offers the wider range of resolutions for viewing text as well as anything else without having your face in the screen so to speak. You can "sit back and enjoy" web tv whatever.
