about the middle of january my computer crashed (aopen pc-100), and i had to take it to a store and get ti looked at and them i got him to copy important files and then rfeformat the HD. And i have reinstalled the OS by myself and pugged in everything, put the sides back on and everythings a go right, well my desktop monitor...Acer X183H LCD monitor has a bit of a hole in the blue plugin thing and i suppose it could be replaced yet the place i took my computer to check out the audio and CD drives not working said they dont fix monitors because its a saftey threat, some people have been thrown across rooms because of the high voltage..

question 1, is the LCD monitor live and a high voltage thing that shouldnt even been tampered with....or i shall be hurt.. or is it safe and i could do it at home??

question 2, are there places that fix this type of thing because i have some sort of blue haze as my monitor color...still a bit white and i can see everything but its not the real color...

question 3, should i just go buy a new monitor...?

heres the blue thing im talking about!!

What exactly do you mean by 'hole'. Like, was it burned or drilled out or something?

As for repairing it, most monitors now adays do contain a CCFL to power the backlight, and while when plugged in it can output around 500 volts, the capacitors are generally small enough and discharge upon unplugging.

The feasibility of repair seems small though, considering a D-sub (little blue plug) can have 15+ solder joints, you would have to be very good at soldering/have the right equipment to be able to replace such a part.

As for OTHER places that would fix it? Can't think of any off the top of my head, this sounds more like a specialty job than what any 'best buy' or whacko can offer.

What I would recommend: make sure its not just a setting on your monitor/computer. Perhaps its simply a matter of color temperature your monitor is set at, or you need new graphics drivers. Explore all your options, and upon failing that, I would just buy a new monitor.

Best of luck.
