lcd monitor help?

It all depends on what you are going to be using it for, like all computer parts.

If your looking to do gaming you want a fast response time. 8ms or lower is good. You want the pixel pitch to be somewhere close around the mid 20's.

If your looking to do video or picture editing you want good color. You want a lot of clarity. Just search the internet for reviews on some LCD's and see which one you like best.

I just did research on LCD screens because my brother wanted me to pick one for him the factors that I found was

Responce time: lower the better
Contrast ratio: higher the better (700:1 is better then 500:1)
brightness: higher the better
pixel pitch: lower the better
Does it has vga or dvi or both: Dvi better then vga.
size: what you want
resoultion: standard is 1280X1024 you will pay alot of money if you want something higher

Ya

Yeah definitley, the above post is the most comprehensive ^. I would go for nothing lower than 17" with a response time between 8 and 16ms. Otherwise I have found that there is not a whole lot of a difference in the contrast ratios and brightness. I have a 350:1 contrast ratio with 260 cd brightness and it's an excellent monitor. Mind you that it has a 25ms response rate. I have never had any ghosting and so on in games. However, the higher these numbers, the better (aside from the response rate which is best when lowest).

Here are the specs:http://www.sharpsystems.com/products/lcd_monitors/15-17_inch/ll-t15g3/

I have personal experience with 2 LCD screens the one I have

acer AL1912b Black 19" 16ms LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 500:1 0.294mm Pixel $250

I been very happy with it and have not seen any ghosting on it.

I do have to admit the one I chose for my brother definally looks a bit better. I can definally notice the increase brightness and contrast ratio. The one my I picked for my brother is

SAMSUNG 915N-Black 19" 8ms LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 700:1 0.294mm Pixel $340 without the $30 rebate.

Both are only VGA connection but I been told you can only tell the difference with DVI if you buy one of the much more expensive monitors. If I was going to buy one today I would get the one my brother just got the samsung 915N.

Make sure the brand has a good warranty. Especially the dead pixel warranty.

The warranty will not necessarily cover dead pixels. It depends if the screen conforms to the ISO 13406-2 (has to look that up) standard, and what cless it is within that standard. Only class I models will have no dead pixels. Class II is what most screen are

The ISO 13406-2 norm defines 4 classes of screens. The strictest and best one, “class 1”, allows no defects. The worst, “class 4” authorizes up to 549 malfunctions for a 15” screen, and 1344 pixels and faulty sub-pixels on a 20” screen. Fortunately no manufacturers use this class. Almost all manufacturers use class 2 to establish their warranties:

so unless you have more dead pixels than the standard affords you warrenty isnt going to help

i wouldn't buy one that doesn't conform to class I or class II the standard. But nearly all of them do no matter where they're from

Lol

i've heard benq makes good lcd's

and so does EIZO, LG, NEC, ....

Chosing on what you have heard is not the best option. Keep in mind that the LCD monitor's qualities may differ from model to model.
