LCD monitor is not working

I bought a 19 Fuji Plus monitor from Newegg in Nov. of 2005. I used it for a few months and then the lights went out. It looked like it was still getting power because when it was plugged in the power light came on but the screen was black.

After replacing the monitor, I took the Fuji Plus to my brothers house and plugged it in. To my surprise, it worked. I left it there and after a few weeks, my brother called and described the same symptoms. Power with a black screen.

I finally got around to cleaning out the closet tonight and saw it in the corner. I decided to plug it in and again, it worked but I don't trust it to work long.

I am wondering if it is an issue with the power source or the screen itself or possibly something else? Any insight would be appreciated and thanks in advance.

First of all you need a Welcome to the Computer Forum! http://www.computerforum.com/70672-official-welcome-thread.html Please be sure to review the http://www.computerforum.com/52038-forum-rules.html

It sounds like a possible intermittency being seen with the backlight where it will light up for a brief period and...? It probably had something get too hot from a defect and let go partitially. Too bad you didn't have it serviced or replaced under manufacturer's warranty when this was first seen.

Thanks for the info. An suggestions on what to do? Is it even worth keeping around?

If it's going to continue seeing the same problems it isn't. You could send it in for service and repair plus S&H and end up costing 1/2 the price of getting into a newer and better model. It could be something simple like a loose wire on a connection or cold solder point. The choice of sending in for repair would have to be upto you there. A 19" Veiwsonic also looks nice too!

Well, I bought a cheap 17" Nspire for the time being but after pulling out the 19" LCD, really want it back. :(

Maybe it will be one of those things I eat the cost of (target practice :D)and just end up buying something newer and better.

I am going to try another power source and VGA? cable before I give up but if you guys have any suggestions as to what brand/size monitors you have been happy with , please let me know.

I haven't quite moved up from a BenQ 17" model here quite yet. BenQ does have a 19" model good for gaming with a 2ms response time. But a good Viewsonic 19" does seem to leap right by the BenQ line altogether. The next one here? Most like a new Viewsonic.
