lcd monitors vs. crt monitors

what is usually better for gaming and such? i am running a evga 7900gt card and i play most of the newer games. so what type of monitor is better: crt or lcd? another thing that i noticed is that if i purchase a lcd, they also have dvi inputs, which is a better connection than vga like my current crt monitor? i am also running a dual monitor setup. should i have one of both and if i did, which one should be the main monitor for gaming and everything?

I prefer CRT monitors over an LCD any day,i wouldnt mind an LCD as of right now due to my lack of desk space, but i prefer my CRT over them for many reasons. And DVI and VGA don't have a noticable difference usually,so it doesnt really matter. If you get a good LCD at like 2ms and 2000:1 contrast then i'd suggest it for gaming...but if you get a standard 8ms then i personally would stick to the crt, others probably think differently though.

I prefer LCD's to CRT's. They have a nicer appearence, much smaller, use less power, and give the true screen sizes.

LCD's are also have a more brilliant picture (compare a big tube tv to an LCD). I have used both, and I will never go back to CRT. I'm using a 19" 8ms 500:1 contrast monitor, and it looks far superior to my previous 17" CRT.

I like my LCD better then the 17" CRT I had before. I get no ghosting and the picture looks crisper with DVI. As stated above, they are smaller and require less power to run also.

The LCDs put off less heat also

I refuse to use anything other than LCD as my primary monitor anymore. All the above reasons(low power, smaller/thinner, MUCH less heat) They also look very clear.

However, they aren't very good if you don't run their native resolution... They get rather fuzzy. Also, if you don't run DVI, you will have to adjust the screen to fit correctly. Most all have an auto adjust, but black areas can throw off the adjustment.

Oh yeah, and they are much easier on your eyes. They don't have the flicker/Hz problem as do CRTs

GOOO CRTs
first of all there cheaper
second i find better picture quality
i mean a really good (and expensive ) lcd will do the same for gammin
but also if ur doing office stuff then id rather have the free desk space

I prefer LCD because they offer more clarity, less heat, less power consumption, take up less space, and don't look ugly like CRTs. LCDs are also becoming much cheaper, you can get a 17" LCD for $130 at Fry's Electronics(after rebate).

I would say go with what your walet can handle, because both CRTs and LCD have pros and cons that in the end match out as you notice by the replies, some people say CRT others LCD.

You know what I'm gonna say, get two CRTs if you want to have a dual-display system, or buy a nice LCD for around the same price.
