can you change it like a crt?
i game at 16x10 resolution, but i want to get a 24in and most come in 19x12. is the resolution fixed on lcds or can i switch back and forth?

You'll be able to change the resolution no problem. All monitors can change their resolution. It's best to run them at their native res though, it'll look much better.

Just to backup Kornowski, LCD's run best at their native resolutions. Anything lower than that resolution will look blurry and tends to ghost a bit more. But they are more than willing to accept different resolutions.

are you confusing 1920x1200 resolution with 19x12? i'm pretty sure there is no 19x12 aspect ratio. to answer your question, you can set your monitor's resolution to pretty much anything, but if the resolution is not the same aspect ratio as your monitor, the pixels will be rectangular and everything will be stretched.

i meant that i play at 1680x1050 resolution, but would like a 24in monitor, which will come at 1920x1200 resolution. they're both 16x10 ratio.
what you're saying is when i game at the lower res, it would be blurry right, because there would be less ppi. i think i get it. then i would either have to game at the higher res and hope for the best. or just get a 22in monitor.
thanks.

For gaming I don't find running at a lower resoltion particularly bad - you'll see the 'fuzziness' on menu screens etc, but during a 3d game I've never really noticed.

one more thing,

if i go crossfire, will i be able to use higher resolution? or will i still be limited by vram? like if i get another 512mb 4870.

You'll only be able to go as high as the monitor will let you. But generally, for gaming, you'll be able to run a higher resolution, Yeah.

Actually, 19x12 and 1920x1200 are the same aspect ratio well, not really, if you go technical about it it would have to be 19.2x12.

But yes, you can change the resolution and if you have an dedicated video card, you can even create your own resolution. I don't know if only some cards allow it or I'm just being ignorant and even integrated does it. :P

Also, on CRT's you could put a resolution higher than its native and it would work, but everything would look way to small.
