So some smart ass I know was saying that LCD's are terrible, they are extreamly slow and horrid image quallity.

Is he wrong. I think so.

He should read up about contrast ratio and response time meanings and then see if he thinks any different. Then again, people have preferences. =p

Is that 2ms for grey-to-grey, black-to-white, or actual colors? And make sure you are gaming in a controlled dark room, otherwise, in a dimly lit room, your eyes may not be able to see the difference of 1:800 and above.

CRTs don't have ms response time, instead, they have refresh rate. I can never go back to CRT too, most definitely not, ever

In the menu (osd) for my dell monitor it says

current setup 1024x768 @ 60hz
optimum setup 1280x1024 @ 75hz

and if i change between them in windows there is a noticeable difference, one is more stable sort of.
