LCD TV and Computer

Ight guys, I have a Brand new 26" LCD Sharp Aquios TV that I want to use as a monitor.

It has a DVI in for computer display. Everything works, but problem is I can only get a 640x480 resolution on the screen. It will do a big resolution but it states that it must be SXGA to get a 1280x768 resolution on it.

What cards and setups are good for this? I have PCI Express. I can always change TV's to, and get another type of LCD TV since its new still.

THanks,
Ray

Um.. Hi Ray,

I am not really sure I understand what you posted, but let me try to explain a few things.

The native resolution on the Sharp Aquous 26 inch LCD is 1366 x 768. Meaning, that this is it's best fit resolution. You should likely try to find a suitable widescreen res for the TV if 1366 x 768 is too small for you. Note that when watching movies, most LCD displays will auto adjust to "best fit", typically resulting in a 800x600 display. Then when you exit the movie it will return back to the resolution you have set for it.

You have to set the resolution from the video card. Nvidia and ATI do things a bit different, but you will have to send a resolution signal from the video card, it can not be toggled from the TV. I hope this clears things up.

Also if I were you I would have shopped around a bit more, the AQUOS series is good, but there is better floating around for the price you pay, even if you're into the whole HDTV built in tuner. You likely have a cable box that serves as this function anyway.

As far as video card preference goes, there really shouldn't be one, just choose something within your budget any will work fine.

im pretty sure u can buy an sxga converter to get the display setting u want on the tv. if u decide to get another tv, u need to get one with sxga (super extended graphics array).
if ur going with a 26" tv though, u prob want wxga (w=wide), which is the 1366 x 768. usually the 17" tvs have the sxga because of the screen shape. look around though, see what u come up with.
