just got a g-card for my m8, Leadtek GeForce 7800GT Extreme Edition 256MB GDDR3 VIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI

his system is the same as mine (refer to sig) apart from he has a RAPTOR HDD and a Storage SATA 200GB HDD !!

He wants to get BF2 and F.E.A.R, could he run them game on the highest settings ??

i "heard" someguy saying at gamefaqs that you'll need two 7800gtx to run F.E.A.R. with everything MAX.
 
i dont see why he wouldn't, he could probably do with another gig of ram for BF2. im not sure if the psu would be ok with the 7800 but ive heard that they require less power than the 6800
 
Oh sorry the PSU he has is a 550w, whats the next step then ppl, another GB of RAM/2nd G-CARD or what ??
 
he might be ok then, i would make sure he has strong 12v rails though. im not sure what the recommended is for the 7800.
have a look HERE to see if this helps
 
i think 1GB is enough for FEAR, if uadd extra 1GB ram i don't think that there will be a difference

well i have 6600 and FEAR runs fine on 1024x768 with medium setting, so i think that 7800GTX could run fear at max
 
fear takes a LOT to run max everything... (soft shadows, 1600x1200, 16AA: at least i think it's 16AA on that game...)
but it will run it quite well nonetheless ;)

they do use less power here and there however for all intents and purposes, they effectively use the same amount of power

wattage means nothing, see PSU 101.

also for BF2, 1Gb of RAM is enough, tough FEAR likes to have more than 1Gb.

BF2 prolly notice more improvement due to stupid coding of the entire game

Yes but soft shadows looks dumb in FEAR's implementation
