Lenovo G570 how to increase mem

I just purchased the above laptop
it came with :Memory: 2GB DDR3 (up to 8GB)

I wanted to ask what memory I should buy to increase the memory either to 4 or 8GB

You need 204-pin DDR3 1333. Here's some options:

Go for 4GB. With your dual-core processor, 8GB will have no difference since your CPU will be limiting it.

If I have 2GB that came with the laptop I should just purchase another 2GB correct?
Also any difference between the name brands, I am new to this.

Technically, you are suppose to install matching pairs, but I think it would be fine.

Crucial, kingston, and corsair are good brands.

So my best option would be to purchase quantity 2 2G to give me a total of
4G or can I just purchase quantity 1 4G?

I would just get a second 2GB stick and add it. You won't be using over 4 GB of RAM.

I ended up picking up a 4gb mem stick, so now i have a 2gb which came with the computer and a 4 gb but when i check the ram it now shows 4gb
I was thinking it should be 6?

Sounds like it has a max of 4GB RAM. You should take it back and 2x2GB sticks to run dual channel.

thanks for the reply I actually just realized I picked up 2 X 2GB cards due to the price of 1 vs 2.
So it is working corectly I now have a total 4GB which is correct.

How do i run dual channel?
