I'm a graphic designer and web designer. So a 17" with 4K IPS screen sounds awesome. I spend around 12 hours a day on my laptop and plan on keeping it for at least 5 years. I want a reliable computer with great performance (price is not a big issue). Please note that I don't play games on the computer.
Here's the configuration I'm looking for:
ThinkPad P71
Intel Xeon E3-1505M v6 Processor (4 Cores, 8MB Cache, up to 4.0GHz)
● Windows 10 Pro for Workstations 64
● Windows 10 Pro 64 for Workstations English
● 17.3" 4K (3840x2160), anti-glare, IPS
● 32GB(16+16) DDR4 2400MHz ECC SoDIMM
● NVIDIA Quadro P3000 6GB
● With Color Sensor
● 720p HD Camera with Microphone
● Keyboard with Number Pad - English
● 3+3BCP, Fingerprint Reader,Color Sensor
● Integrated Fingerprint Reader
● Hardware dTPM2.0 Enabled
● Hardware dTPM
● 1TB SSD PCIe TLC OPAL2
● 500GB 7200rpm HDD
● ODD Blank Bezel Fixed
● 1.5TB
● 8 Cell Li-Ion Battery 96Wh
● 230W AC Adapter - US(3pin)
● Intel Dual Band Wireless AC(2x2) 8265, Bluetooth Version 4.1, vPro
● WWAN
● Integrated Mobile Broadband upgradable
● 17.3" 4K IPS eDP 1.2 (3840x2160), 300nit, Non-Touch, 2D-Camera, Color Sensor, WLAN/WWAN
● vPro Certified
- 5Y On-site NBD upgrade from 1Y Depot/CCI
- 5Y Accidental Damage Protection compatible with Onsite warranty
Price before taxes: 4,989$ CAD = $3,800 USD
I have a few questions:
1 - The CPU I selected (Intel Xeon E3-1505M) is 400$ more than a Intel Core i7-7700HQ. Is it worth the price difference?
2 - 32GB(16+16) DDR4 2400MHz ECC SoDIMM for $600. Would I be better ordering the minimum amount of RAM and buying it on newegg or somewhere else online?
3 - Should I get ECC or regular RAM?
4 - NVIDIA Quadro P3000 for $410 more than a NVIDIA Quadro M620. Would you recommend it?
5 - 1TB SSD PCIe TLC OPAL2 for $730 more than a 256G SSD PCIe MLC OPAL2. Would you recommend it?
6 - Any other input?
Thanks!
