I have a Lenovo Y560 and for the past 6 hours I've been trying to make my wireless network work.
Here's what happened:
I was studying and decided to browse youtube. When I opened one of the thumbnails to a video, it took forever to load. Then the "Cannot connect to the internet" page appeared. That's when I noticed that my wireless was turned off. In my task tray, there was an icon with grey bars and a red "x" over it. I figured it was because of my hardware radio/wireless switch was turned off, but it wasn't. It was switched to ON this whole time. I also noticed that my Norton 360 wouldn't turn on... I would double click it and nothing would pop up. Could it be a virus?
So here's what I did:
1a) I turned the radio switch OFF, then ON again. --> Problem remained.
1b) Troubleshoot the problem. --> Says that radio switch is OFF.
2) I uninstalled and installed my wireless network adapter driver. --> Still the same problem.
3) Call Lenovo Tec Support. --> Asked me to pay $80. Heck no!
4) Actually bought a new network adapter (a better one - Intel Centrino Ultimate N-6300). --> Hopes shattered.
5) Tried opening my computer's exterior and see if there was something wrong with its ON/OFF switch mechanism. --> Nope!
6) Now I'm all out of ideas and desperately posting on this forum, hoping for some valuable help/suggestions.
My last resorts / stuff I have not done but have considered doing:
1) System restore to its manufacture state.
2) Bring my computer to a repair shop / friend to ask for help.
Questions:
1) Could it be that it's a virus? I mean my Norton 360 doesn't work and my wireless connection is still down. What confuses me though is that my computer says it's a hardware problem and that this happen out of the blue...
