my lexmark x75 all in one refuses to work for vista. i used the latest drivers and everything. it worked fine on xp. is it a vista thing or am i not doing something right?. im a noob at vista as i have only been messing with it for a week...

Thats what i seen at Cnet. here was the reply after some search.

Been working on this issue for a while... Finally got it more or less figured out.

Download the XP driver on your vista computer. Install it(in compatibility mode, if necessary). Go to printers, double click on your printer, then let it sit for a moment. Vista should think for a moment, then the top of your window should show a message like "Driver needs updating". Then, click on "Printer" in the upper left, and click on the "update driver" button in the drop down menu. After vista completes this, you may print!

Getting XP stuff to run on Vista that isn't specifically designed to do so is going to be iffy at best. The only thing to do is to give it a go and see what happens...

im just gonna buy a new printer that takes the cheaper ink. found a hp printer on the office depot website who's ink is half of what this lexmark ink costs. and the tv commercial claims 60% more prints than other inks. thanks for the input guys

Just to clarify, what HP is advertising is that they're ink in general can give you up to 65% more page yield than off-brand/recycled/remanufactured ink cartridges for the same HP ink cartridge. Doesn't mean that it will, but that it can. That says nothing about any other printer inks, just HP. Furthermore, when looking at a printer, you want to look at the cost per page, not the cost of the cartridge. Just because it's cheap means absolutely nothing. Typically you're going to pay out the nose for those when you compare the page yields of those super cheap cartridges (under $25 USD) compared to the ones for the more expensive machines.

well. it doesn't matter now. i can bring the printer back out of the closet. i had to go back to xp. vista was junk and there were too many problems running it on my system that i couldn't justify keeping it. thanks for the info guys.
