Light Gun help!

I had planned on making a Light Gun(like the ones used for DuckHunt on NES). I Wanted to amke it from scratch though. I was wondering if anyone could offer a link to site that offers tutorials on making Light Guns.... Can someone also tell me where I could find a diode that is used for those?? Can you buy them at an electronics store?? Thanks in advance, Imasho Eiji..........
