If limewire is part illegal, or all.
Why do people continue to download songs and nothing happens?
Makes me wonder.

Not sticking up for illegal downloaders, Nor am i sticking up for the legal part.

This is just a simple question.

the problem is that the program is not illegal in itself - The people who upload/download copywritten material are the ones who commit the illegal act. If you were to, say, upload a song of you singing so that your friends could get it, that isn't illegal.

Oh ok... me singing eh lol
Then how much content does one have to download to get 'caught'
i was told from a friend, that his friend got caught for downloading.
But again, how believable is it?

I'm not sure...

Also, I'm not sure, but are we allowed to talk about this here? Does it fall under the first rule?

RIAA are seeking out and suing people for their useage of limewire in downloading copyright material. To date they have sued in excess of 2000 people for this infringment.

In response to the how much do you have to download to get caught..answer..1 song feasibly...solution...dont do it )

I doubt that he would have actually been caught. Out of the millions of people using file sharing programs each year only a handful of them get into trouble for it. And the people that do get in trouble for it are normally the mass uploaders. That upload tens of thousands of songs for people to download. personaly I dont use these programs because I like having cds and I think its illegal.

i purchase off of itunes.
And yet, people who DONT buy they get ALL there material tens of thousands of songs and other stuff, are the ones to get caught

Over 2000 people is a tiny percentage of the people that use it. At my school alone I would say about 50% of people use it to download music off. Some of them get what they deserve when they come in complaining when they get viruses when they are trying to download games and stuff off limewire. I use iTunes if I don't know what the band are like because it can sometimes be like £5 cheaper than cds. I read in my local newspaper this guy from aberdeen got fined like £20000 for damages because he was hosting like 200,000 songs, but that was on a web site not file sharing.

the RIAA have been looking at people sharing over 1000 songs....which to be fair can comprise of quite a lot of the people using it. and they are willing to sue every last one of them if they have to

You can be fined in the region of $80,000 for having just one copyrighted song.

no they are within their rights to do that under copyright law, thats not to say they are doing that. As said before they are targetting high downloaders but they have it in their poweer to go for anyone they want if they feel like it

ok, that sounds better.
I completely understand the high downloaders, of tens of thousands of songs, movies, pictures, exc.

kinda like breaking in a liquor store and stealing one bottle of beer....you aren't gonna be charged just for that bottle of beer you have to recognize the severity of your crime and you'll pay way more than the cost of a bottle of beer

Actually, it doesn't matter how many songs you download. There was a report the other day in the local newspaper about a girl who downloaded three (3) songs, and now has to pay $8,000. Bottom line, DON'T DO IT.
It's like playing russian roulette, sure you may do it 15 times and never die, but there is always that chance. And if you do get caught, you pretty much screwed up the rest of your life.

when my friend a i talk occasionally, he himself, and his friends at school, class of 10 everyone there uses limewire, and he downloads songs, and video clips.

then another friend downloads songs and movies, then converts them for his ipod.

Your telling me, everyone mentioned, will be caught and lives ruined?

not that iam second guessing you either.
