linksys not working

hi i have a linksys wrt54g router and a westell versalink 327w modem... the router sends out a signal but for some reason doesn't get internet from the modem... I'm connecting the ethernet coming from a port on the modem to the "internet" slot on the router... !?

So... I can connect to the router but it has no internet and everything is hooked up right (yes the modem has internet)
 
Have you changed anything on the router? Try to unplug both the router for about 5 mins and then replug in the modem let it get a signal and then plug in teh router. If that doesnt work try holding in the reset button for 10 seconds on the router and setting it back to factory settings incase something accidently got changed.
 
just tried it, still nothing... Could there be a problem with it being a WPA-encrypted secure connection? is the router maybe looking for the password from... the modem?
 
Yes it does require an external modem.. I was looking all over for one that has one integrated in it but couldn't find it anywhere... probably a stupid mistake.. does it have any specific name?

EDIT: It's really weird; it appears that everything is hooked up correctly because I can connect to the router, however the router isn't recieving an internet connection from the modem... is it not connecting to the internet because I need to enter the secure connection password somewhere?
