Linksys Router/Comcast Cable Issue

I have a friend with an XP desktop using a comast cable modem. I tried to install a Linksys WRT54G router using the included CD, that they had laying around. The internet works with just the modem, but when the router is in, no dice. I talked to two people at linksys for two hours and nothing. I updraded firmware, restarted, power cycled, copied Mac addresses, pinged, and checked settings...still nothing. When I ran the CD with the router it gets to the last step, says configuring router and then goes to connect to the internet, all the lights on the router are on, but the send/recieve lights on the modem are not and it obviously cannot connect. The linksys people were running out of ideas and I was out of time so we hung up since I wasn't getting anywhere anyway. Anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried unpluginh the modem for 10 sec, pluging it back in and then reboot the linksys?

try the 30/30/30 reset too which is use a pen to press the reset button on the back for 30 seconds, then unplug it while still holding the pen for 30 seconds, then plug it back in while still holding the pen for another 30 seconds.

I haven't tried the 30/30/30. I'll give that a shot and then if it doesn't work, try another router just to see if the router is bad, although the pinging worked, but who knows.

Delete all settings then try setting it up again from the start and see if you can find anything that might be going wrong. That's what I would do.
