Linksys Router Issues

Hello -

I have a Linksys WRT54G router. Everything was working fine, but our modem was outdated and we upgraded our internet package through our ISP - Charter. So, I picked up a new Cisco modem yesterday and ever since then I have been having issues. The modem is functioning properly - if I hard wire it to the computer I have an internet connection. However, once I connect the router, I cannot get online. The wireless signal strength is excellent, but I do not have internet access. I've been searching online for hours on how to fix and have tried many things with no luck. Any ideas?

Thanks!
Melisa

Have you tried unplugging the router and then plugging it back in to get new ip address from modem?

The Cisco Modem is just a modem - DPC/EPC3010.

I have tried unplugging the modem, the router, restarting the computer, new ethernet cables, resetting both the modem and the router, restoring the router to factory settings.

When I go the router's web-based setup page and click on status the Internet IP Address values are showing up 0.0.0.0. I've tried Releasing IP Address and Renew IP Address.

When the modem is hard wired to the computer all of the lights are lite on the modem. When I switch it to include the router, the "link" light on the modem is no longer on.

Could the router be bad? Do all routers work with all modems?

Thanks for your help!

When you plug directly into the modem, what IP address do you get? If the internal ip address of the modem is similar to the IP address of the router, you won't get connectivity. Try this. Connect to the router, change the internal IP address to 192.168.1.2 then save settings. Then connect router to modem and reboot the router to see if it gets connectivity. If that don't work then try 192.168.2.1. I've seen an issue like this when ATT modem ip address is similar to the linksys router.

I have the same router as you. Go to 192.168.1.1 in your browser, enter "admin" for the username and password, and then go to Advanced Routing and then make sure it's in Gateway mode:

This router also has a habit of dying around this time, so I'd consider that too.

I ended up having someone come to the house to look at it and it looks like my router needed to be replaced. I purchased a new one and everything is back up and running. Thank you for the help!
