Linksys routher question.

My internet got shut off and it will be off for a month or two and I can pick up a very weak internet signal from I don't no where lol. But anyway is it possible to use my Linksys router to catch the signal? Like making it work backwards instead of putting out a signal, have it catch it so maybe that would be stronger? Thanks!

Ok since no reply on that question and I couldnt find anything on google. If I was to buy an external wireless card, would that help the connection at all, or would there be no diffrence between the on board wireless?

ok well it is possible, however somewhat risky if you dont know what your doing.

You can put a 3rd party firmware on the router called dd-wrt. WARNING:!!! this will void your warranty, failure to follow the instructions posted on the site for your model may result in bricking or completely destroying your router. If all directions are followed correctly, you should be fine. But continue with caution. Also you can not go back. once you flash it, you cant go back to the normal firmware I have to say that because i did brick one of my routers out of the 10 or so i did so there is a possibility. If you need help, ask before moveing on. better to spend 3 days preparing then 1 dead router

However if you get the firmware on there you are able to set the wireless to a wireless bridge which will do as you say and make the router connect to the network and you get to then use the lan cables as lan cables. Also the firmware is very good. has many great features that linksys does not add

I also have to add that you must make sure it is ok to borrow your neighbors internet.

Well I don't want to do it, if I can't go back, Because one day I will have my own internet back and will need my router. So if I can't go back then it is kind of pointless because I will have to buy another router, Thanks a bunch though!

well no, the firmware works as it does now, it will allow you to go back, i mean you just cant go back to linksys firmware. I run dd-wrt now. The only reason you may not want to switch is the possability of briking it. but it can do everythign it can do now plus more. but it is your call ;)

Well in your opionion how difficult is it. Because I've updated the firmwire on it before and it wasn't very difficult at all lol. So it will be basically the same plus more lol. Is the firmwire for it easy to set up, like do fuctions and change settings and stuff?
