Linux advantages

Gaming in Linux has greatly improved over the last two years but still on as good as Windows. Either run Ubuntu or Elementary OS, both have some decent games in the software center and both have support for Steam. Just install steam and go under the linux section of the store.

You can use Wine and Steam for Linux. If you don't have $100 to shell out for Windows Linux will work but not nearly as good as Windows. You can maybe play 45 percent of games using Wine, and like 20 percent of Steam games.

I have tried going to Wine route. So far I got SC2 to half work, CS Source to work well and Portal to load the game but not play well... Even if it worked well, I
t still had terrible performance compared the the same games on Windows. You will spend more time working out bugs trying to run things in Wine than what you would need to go spend at work to make up the extra $100 for Windows.

Yeah WINE is not a good option for gaming, personally I use Linux cause I prefer it to Windows and what native games are available are a plus but if I was going straight gaming rig then I would bite my teeth and install Windows.

On side note Diablo 2 and 3 are not natively supported in linux and when I tried Diablo 2 about two years ago in WINE it did not work.

For gaming I would stick with Windows, although as has been mentioned, gaming on Linux has improved over the past few years.

I've never gotten anything to work properly with WINE anyway.
