well i installed Mandriva

when the selection menu comes up, to choose between mandriva and xp, my keyboard isnt active.

my keyboard works and i can turn on caps lock and stuff before that boot screen. but not once it comes up.

so i repaired xp so i could get into it again and used acronis boot selector so i can choose between xp and mandriva. thats how i can be on xp now. when i tell it to load mandriva it comes up with the grub screen again and i cant do anything. and have to restart.

any idea what i could do?

it seems to be just a keyboard problem.

thanks

ok never mind all that.

i got rid of xp. now im running Mandriva.

my problem now is i cant change it from 800x600 resolution. so i tried to install the latest nvidia drivers. but i get the message

ERROR: Unable to find the system utility `ld`; please make sure you have the
package 'binutils' installed. If you do have binutils installed,
then please check that `ld` is in your PATH.

what do i do?

i downloaded binutils but i can work out how to install it.
it says that if i dont have it to make sure i have 'ld" in my path.

how do i do that?

to install nvidia drivers i use the command sh /home/kesava/Desktop/nvidia

where would i put in ld?

i tried at the end and beginning

i tried to install the nvidia drivers and got to the point where i have to disable xserver

i read somewhere to type init 3 in terminal.
so i did that that brought me to another screen. i then ran the installer and it worked until it needed gcc.

so i tried to install that and it said unsatisfied libgomp.so.1

so i installed that and it said unsatisfied cpp, when i tried to run the installer again.

so now i need to know what to do next...

what is the proper way to do this?
