Linux For My 10 Yr Old PC

I've got an old computer with an 80 Mhz processor and a 1 gig HD (that's all I know about it) and I was hoping installing linux on it would help me expand my working knowledge of computers.

Could anyone recommend a linux distribution or re-direct me to a suitable information source from which I could decided on a distribution that would work well on a computer of this specification and at the same time not be terribly complicated (my highest level of IT study was to GCSE).

I've seen distrobutions of less than 300 Mb so there's gotta be something out there. linuxfromscratch.com even says you could run linux with as little as 5 Mb!!

I'm not looking to run anything fancy, just something I can learn from.

I think Sebouh is right

I dont.

However my only advice is try it! Linux can be downloaded for free so there is no harm in trial and error and thats how we learn best :).

Lol, I have one. An old IBM Aptiva.
P1 75mhz (breakneck speeds!!!)
16mb of RAM (send over windows longhorn)
1 gig hard drive (Sims 2 anyone?)
1 mb video card (Psssh, it could do Half life 2 anyday)
CD ROM 4X (OMG A CD ROM DRIVE??? QUAD SPEED???)

you can get win95/98 on it... i have my old 486 with win98 on it and it work really good ( relatively good... its a 66mhz...)

Dear,

Otherwise you can try to visit www.linux.org or www.linuxISO.org to get some version of Linux, guide/getting started, more discussion etc. But in my experiences, mostly Linux can adjust it's specification and library needed depend on your system, so try to install it and it will choose the best configuration for your system.

If you choose Knoppix, there is no need to install, boot it from CD and you just spend your 1 GB for temporary files that made.
