linux mandriva live cd help

hi i just downloaded the mandriva live cd ios and put it to cd then i booted from it and a picture of a penguin came on my screen but nothing else happened so i pushed a few keys on the keyboard and this came up
warning unable to open an initial console.
kernel panic-not syncing no init found .
i dont know what this means or what to do i am running windows xp home please help
