I'm buying an ibm T-61.
It comes with my choice of WinXP-Pro or Vista.
I'm wondering if it is a good idea to reformat the laptop once it arrives and make it a dual boot linux and Windows machine.
I would choose XP. You can repartition. Ubuntu Linux is great for desktops. But, I have heard it is really buggy for laptops. I would suggest OpenSuse 10.3 when that comes out in a few months.
RedHat is way outdated and has become the distro known as Fedora and is quite popular. Yes, as previously mentioned you would be able repartition with XP or Vista installed.
That's OK, but is it worth paying for? i.e. comparing red hat with fedora ... if you didn't have to pay for either one, would you still go with fedora?
