alright, so ive got my computer together, it boots up and everything. the other night i set it to boot the cd first, because im trying to get a copy of linux, specifically gentoo. so, i went to the website, found a mirror, went amd64/-->current/--->installcd/-->and then saved the amd64-universal-2006.0.iso to a cd, tried to boot it up in my pc, and nothing happened. did i download the wrong iso? am i supposed to write everything else to the CD? right now im downloading the packagecd/ instead of the installcd/ to try that, but i still think im doing something wrong.

basically, im trying to install gentoo on a new computer. if somebody could tell me what im doing wrong, or tell me what i should be doing, or just give me a slap, i would appreciate it. (not so much the third one, but thanks)

btw im using roxio to make the CD.

you don't just burn the iso file to the cd, you have to burn the iso image. When you do that, you get the actuall files on the cd, many files and not just one .iso file.

I think roxio has a iso (or cd image) burning option, if not, google iso burner

If you look around on the net you can find a demo copy of NERO burning software. There might even be a free ware version. Then all you have to do is burn the image to a cd. Then thats all there is to it. If computer is set to boot cd first then you are all set. If not you can change it in the bios. Make sure that it set right and have some fun learning linux!!!

screw it...i just bought the july edition of linux format and used the dvd distro that came with it...so now im running PClinuxOS.
