I would like to ask why cant i install linux on my lap top. When i put the CD in it and boot it it works fine but when it need to start installing, the desktop goes a little freaky and says graphic problem. I want to install 9.4 version. I think that my graphic card is not ok but dont know so i expect you to tell me what the problem is. My graphic card is Ati Mobility Radeon HD 3400 Series 512mb. I hope so someone has the solution

Which distro( version of linux, like ubuntu, red hat, fedora etc) are you trying to install??
If u have windows installed, and ur graphic seems fine on windows, then there is nothing wrong with ur graphics card. It is just an issue with the installation disc.

Need more details.

that's linux ubuntu and the cd is not the problem i tried on other computer and it worked the version of the os is 9.4. The graphic on Windows is very good. As i read on internet the OS Linux Ubuntu dont make drivers for Ati Radeon graphic card but dont know if that is true. I hope so you will find the solution

You need to download and run the installer script from ATI for your Linux drivers to work with your video card.

i would say a better option is to go to google and download the wubi installer. this installer installs ubuntu onto ur pc without the need of a cd. infact this is a more effective way to install linux rather than the traditional cd method. let me know how it goes.

ty very much for solving my problem and i would now say that the wubi installer is the best way to install linux ubuntu.

How is that maintained? I would rather get the newest driver from the manufacturer rather than some third party software installer script that may not work with the newest builds.
