Linux/ubuntu on black screen of death Vista

Hi guys,

I'm trying to revive an old laptop.
The only problem is the fact I get the 'Black screen of death'.
I tried all the solutions I could find on the internet, but none would work.
I also don't have a recoverydisk.

My question is if it is possible to put Linux/Ubuntu on this laptop.
Is there a way to get to a screen from where I can install Linux/Ubuntu via an USB-drive?

Sincerely,

Skuzi

If it's hardware (overheating for example), it won't change a thing but if it's a missing boot file yeah you can instal Linux. I'm using Ubuntu on a revived laptop, just make a Boot CD of Ubunutu 13.04 and boot from it, follow the instruction and install.

When the computer first boot's and you see the manufactures logo you will go into the bios by pushing the button it says (example F2) or on some like I have seen on Dells they will present with bios or a separate option "boot loader". Either way you must go into the boot loader which for me is in the bios and place "External Device" at the top of the list so when you boot the computer checks for USB devices.

Here is the guide on how to create Ubuntu installer on USB:
