Linux?

I am thinking of getting Linux but I'm not sure what version to get any ideas?

What do you want to do with it? There are many different versions of Linux and knowing your plans or goals might make one "flavor" more ideal that others.

assuming you want it for desktop purposes use Ubuntu, very popular... very compatible... large support community. I also like Linux mint(basically ubuntu), Fedora (14 just came out recently), openSuSE.

Vampiric is right though if you have a certain goal in mind they might make a distro tailored to that.

I am thinking about running Open Office (word processor), web browsing, and maybe a little gaming (mindcraft).

Based on that I would agree with Quiltface and say try ubuntu. It's very users friendly, the only down side is you might not learn as much about Linux as you would if you where to use something like Gentoo.

the most recent versions of ubuntu are extremely user friendly and very easy to get used to. +1 for ubuntu 10.10.

Linux Mint is another nice one to look at. It's based off Ubuntu, which is in turn Debian based.
