Linux

i want to partition the hd, also is it free?? oh and i dont know how to get it on my comp sence it i cant access the net.... im sure a flashdrive will be too small

Linux is free. Just look for the different distros you are interested in.

I have myself installed Linux and am currently using it as I type. I am using Sabayon so if you want to gander into that. It's somewhat frustrating if you have never used Linux before as it some distros may look like Windows, but works differently.

Also, you may have some hardware problems, so make sure you are prepared for that because some stuff might not work due to no drivers, etc.

download the live desktop versions and boot off them. they run off the cd, its a great way to test compatibility before you install.

The best advice I can give you is to spend a good few hours of your life on google.

You don't appear to know anything about Linux, you have to realise that it's not the Windows you are used to and that you will have to LEARN how to use it.

For example, you ask where to get Linux. I was looking at a page yesterday with 148 distributions that have Live CD's / DVD's ( http://www.livecdlist.com/?pick=All&showonly=desktop )

You need to research into which distribution(s) you are going to try.

Wikipedia definition - Distribution - A Linux distribution or GNU/Linux distribution (or a distro) is a Unix-like operating system comprising software components such as the Linux kernel, the GNU toolchain, and assorted free and open source software. Some proprietary software is found in certain distributions and is not free software. A Linux Distribution — or distro, en parlante — is created by individuals, groups and organizations from around the world.
