Linuxon old computer

i have an old 133MHz cpu 64MB ram computer i would like to put linux on. what distro should i use? i plan on using a 1.2G harddrive. GUI is not nesissary but woud be a nice feature.
 
A 486 processor refers to an old Intel processor that ran at 33 or 50 MHz, depending on the version.
 
Well id stick with one of the originals or well supported linux flavors:slackware,debian,fedora or redhat. Secondly, a full install with all the software including a GUI wont fit in 1.2GB. You can install X, a GUI, and be picky about what you choose and use up around 750mb though no problem, about 330mb give or take for a well equipped non gui install.

With 64mb RAM, your gonna be into the swap space just by running firefox or something like it by itself in a GUI, meaning it be very very slow. It will plenty fast in console mode though.

There's quite a bit you can do with an old box like that though, good command line unix skills can do wonders.

where did that come from??
the cpu i have is an AMD http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/80486/AMD-AMD-X5-133ADW (Am5x86-P75).html

There's quite a bit you can do with an old box like that though, good command line unix skills can do wonders.

thats the main reason for the linux install really. i dont think i need a "new" OS just an older version that will only take up 400MBs or so. some thing really simple

I refered to the system requirements of slackware. it said that the computer needed a 486 processor. I wondered wether that was refering to the speed. I was corrected and told it was a type of processor

i didnt mean to delete it, but i was too lazy to repost;)

Why not get window's 3.1 I think it fits on 6 floppyy diskl's so it has to be small enough, and you should be able to get it for less then 20$, prabally around 10$ if you look around.
