Liquid in heatpipes?

I don't believe so, at least, not in that HSF, although I could be wrong.

There's a small amount of working fluid within a heatpipe, to facilitate heat transfer from one end to the other. That article you linked to has a good explanation on how it works, which part do you find confusing?

well is there any running liquid, of just liquid vapor? why not add more for more effective heat transfer?

Ah, I suppose I was wrong...there's no running liquid, but liquid in the heatpipe, which transfers heat to the vapors, which transfer heat to the heat sink, which then dissipates the heat.
