Liquid in heatpipes?

There's a small amount of working fluid within a heatpipe, to facilitate heat transfer from one end to the other. That article you linked to has a good explanation on how it works, which part do you find confusing?
 
Ah, I suppose I was wrong...there's no running liquid, but liquid in the heatpipe, which transfers heat to the vapors, which transfer heat to the heat sink, which then dissipates the heat.
