would I screw anything up if I removed media player from my comp? whats the best way to do this?
Possibly mess up IE, I'd reccomend just leaving it, it's ok to have more than one player.

now that you mention it, a few years back when I had win 98, I removed media player, and it did mess up IE. what a mess that was to fix.

Yep, because since it's bundled with the system, IE assumes its there whenever it goes to access media. I don't know if this may have changed, as after an EU ruling, Microsoft was forced to remove WMP from Xp for all European shipments, so that other media players could be "more competitive", I don't know if that makes it any easier to remove from American/non European versions though. As I said, just leaving it will do no harm, and especially since not all media will play in Winamp, and for more extensive video and whatnot.
