lite-on?

a "good" DVD-ROM is one that exceeds the normal speed. Usually the normal MAX speed is 16x, but I have found ones that do 48x, and that is extreme! I was going to get one, but needed my money for something else. Why do you want a ROM? they only read disks, they don't write them.

Do you want to burn DVDs? (burn means to put data or a movie on it) If you get a DVD-RW (RW mean re-writable) then you have many good things to come with it.
1. you can make a system back up DVD in about 2-4 DVDs, if you used Cd's instead you may need 6-12!

2. back up important stuff like pictures, software, you name it.

3. You can make music DVDs that play up to 6 hours of constant music on a DVD player!

and so much more!!! DVD-RW are not that much money any more. about all computers come with a DVD-ROM because there old and cheep. DVD-RW still are not that much more money and you will be sooo much happier with a DVD-RW :) if you can buy though the Internet I will personally find you a good one foe a great price. If you want to go to a store to get one I'll find one you can trust. which do you plan to do?

in store they can run like 80 bucks + for a pretty crappy one. you can get a damn good one on newegg for like 30. they are really cheap and are quite handy. scratch the rom and get the rw

My experience with Lite-On has been pretty bad... My DVD-ROM in my first machine began acting up pretty soon after getting it(so did my dad's...) I also once had a Lite-On DVD-Recorder(worked like a VCR) The burner in that died...
