Hi, I'm trying to use the Ubuntu 7.10 Live CD, and and won't work.

I verified the download the the md5 or md3 sums or whatever they are called, and it matches. I burned the image to a disk and verified it. I rebooted my computer and the Ubuntu boot screen came up. I verified the data on the disk, and it was fine.

When I tried to boot Ubuntu however, the loading bar would come up, and would load normally. When the bar finished loading the screen went completely black.

A few seconds later I heard the African Ubuntu music or whatever, lol, but the screen remained entirely black. I waited over half an hour (I was doing other things of course, lol) and still nothing happened.

I tried that once or twice more, and even tried to boot it in safe mode, but still had no success.

If anyone can help me that'd be great, thanks:)
 
You tried boot a live cd while Windows was running? Tried in safe mode? That's the main reason why any distro won't load. You have to boot a live distro as a self contained on cd OS. Once you custom install a Linux distro to the drive on a system it then needs a boot loader to be loaded as a separate operating system there.

To boot a live distro set the first item in the boot order as cd rom and press the enter button when prompted to load ubuntu instead of seeing Windows start as usual. The only time another OS can be loaded while Windows is running is when setting up a virtual machine to isolate the two different OSs.
 
that what I did. Everything that I said was in reference to the boot menu off the CD. I turned off my comp, switched the boot order, and went from the CD, thats how i got to the ubuntu loading bar...
 
If you have tried booting from the cd several times and still are not seeing it load up then you have to look at what program was used for burning the iso image to disk as well as the blank media used. Sometimes no matter what you still may end up with a bad burn on a good brand of disks.

Many will recommend Deep Burner as the program to use while I;ve seen the best results for burning Linux iso images with the free version of another program suitable for iso type disk images called BurnOn. Even there Live distros can be fussy at times getting them to load. Sometimes you have to hit the enter or another key to motivate them a little or simply reboot a few times to finally see one load fully.

The 7.10 release is actually one of the easiest to see load up with a good burn to disk. In fact that is the default OS here at the moment that sees a Vista/XP dual boot follow. This is why the program used for burning may be the problem for not seeing a full burn.

The free version of BurnOn is found at http://www.burnworld.com/burnoncddvd/ If the program you used there lacks supports for iso images or simply sees a bad burn give this one a try.
