Why isn't messenger working with vista now

i've put the proper proxy settings (my username & password)
in the advance settings of connection.
when i test, it works but when i actually try to sign in it fails.

any ideas why ?

note: firewall is allowing messenger through

i have so far read on soo many forums telling me to delete some registry key, go into command and run this and that, but to no avail

I am using Proxy as well.

Go to Internet Explorer

Tools
-> internet Options
> Connections Tab
> Lan Settings
Click Advanced.

Now, Write down the Socks Info, You will need this for MSN Messenger

For Me It is:

Proxy Address: 169.254.1.89
Port: 1080

Now,

Go to MSN Messenger

Tools
Options
Connection

Put in your Socks Information you wrote down before

I don't have a User name and Password in, You may have a Different Setup too me thought . . .

Try that.

seems to be a problem with messenger and vista, cause this works on XP.
i didn't use socks info on XP and i dont think vista will either.
on xp i use http proxy only (my name and pass)
doing same thing on vista won't work !!

I use Vista.

Did you try what i said?

Or cant you?

Coz, When something doesn work for me, i dont usually sit there and complain, I try other ways too get it too work.

duh, i did it and just to let you know, even if we have socks you don't need to put it for messenger to work (at least in the office), so i googled more, hopeless, all solutions i found online doesn't work.
i'm starting to regret the idea of even installing vista:mad:
by the way, messenger works well on my home connection (broadband)
anyways, weekends now, i'll check this thread back on monday

cheers
