ok this just a quick ?. when i play unreal it takes appro. 1 30min to load torlan (   ) but it plays perfectly fine so ne way which would affect loading better, a new cpu 3.0ghz cpu or 512 ram???

Well...Celeron's are not known to be speed demons. even a 3.0GHz one wouldn't make that big of a diff i dont think. Your big slowdown is not only 256MB or RAM, it's PC2100. I would really think 512MB PC3200 would cut that load time at LEAST in half. Can your mobo support that fast RAM? If not then i still say 512 MB PC2100 will do you better than a 3.0GHz Processor. having 3.0ghz ride on 256MB PC2100 will be a HUGE bottleneck, and i dont think it would take advantage of the new 400MHz.

well the ppl who made my comp (emachines) said that my mobo can only support 2100 or 2700 but its not recomended to mix ram cards like that???

yes, it is not good to mix different speeds. why? because your PC2700 will just downclock to PC2100 speeds (so basically a waste). If you can then get 512MB PC2700 and sell the PC2100. If not then just another stick of PC2100 should be good. It's pretty cheap stuff...

hmm ya that is alot cheaper lol thx and no i cant run dual channel ive already got another 256 in, will mixing 256 and 512 screw my system up?

Mixing ram size is fine but it wont run in dual channel mode if your motherboard supports it

i dont think his supports it, especially if it only has 2 DIMM slots. might be wrong though...

no I wouldn't expect it too, especially with an emachines celeron. I'd say the motherboard an i845 variant

ya mine prob doesnt it was a piece of $hit when i bought it and i didnt know anything bout comps so now im payin for it, literly and metaphoricly, lol

for anything but gaming it's more than powerful enough. unfortunatly PC salesfolk like to earn commission and the low price of the budget systems looks real nice to an uninformed shopper when they say its 2.6GHz with xMB RAM and 40GB HDD

ya i no well i thought that since ive never heard of a celeron b4 when i bought my comp that the new cpu was all good and now i would like to buy a gun rather a new pc, first to shoot my TOTALY AWESONE RAD GAMING RIG then ME!!!!!!!!! lol

eMachine sure isnt exactly a cool name....

hey man stick up for ya emachine. I got a t2862, 2.6/256/60. Of course it needs upgrades, but it will be work fine with a good Vcard and full o' ram. I mean I paid $380 complete cant ask for a better start than that IMOP.

You mean UT2k4?

Check that your drives arent working in PIO mode (as opposed to DMA)

The slowdown is the size limitation m8 (ive ran it on 2100 and 2700 and 3200, everrything else being the same), as for upgrading to 512@PC3200 the bonus mostly comes from the 512 ... why? Because even if its PC2100 -- its faster than the alternative (the harddrive). The reason its slow is because 256MB will fill up real fast and then the system has to goto the harddrive

i845/850 are the probable targets

Is Futureshop commission based? ;)

1st of all yes ut2004 and depending on the map size and foliage amount it varys on teh settings i can have it on. and believe it or not on severance i can ALWAYS have it on best with all things check (when that guy goes "Hoooly shi-i-i-t") with 32 max players and think if i OC all my parts!!!  lol but its just the damn loading time the graphics are great its just the waiting kinda kills the adreniline for a some flak in a guys head :( :(

??? if i said both HL2 and UT2004 than its both i dont say things i dont mean uless im severly drugged LIKE THIS ONE TIME MY MOM ASKED ME WHERE IVE BEEN AND SHE WAS LIKE NU UH AND THEN I WAS LIKE YA HUH AND THEN...o sry bout that i musta been heavly medicated on "per-scribtion" drugs, i dont no y i said HL2 i can only play that on medium with omly lag when theres massive explosions but ut2004 does play like i said
