Motherboard Intel D845GERG2, loading XP I receive notice "Cannot Load xx", "xx" means a specific file, if I bypass this another comes up. Is this MB to old to take XP, the BIOS not current enough? or is ther other reasons. The MB is used and with a CPU @ 2.66 GHz I would think is is not that old.

I'll bet it's your CD. Check to see if it's scratched or dirty. If not that, try a different CD drive. In the worst and most unlikely case, it could also be your HD.

I created an ISO-image of all my Software CD's, including WinXPpro and MS Office 2000.
This allows me to reproduce any of my software CD's over and over again, if they are damaged.
My "MS Office 2000"-CD is at least 7 years old, with an ISO-image I can create a new one, if that CD is worned out.
All these software CDs are difficult to get them back, if you lose or damage them. Some of them aren't even sold anymore.

My bet would be on that you have a bad memory stick in your system. If you have more than one stick, remove one and try installing again. Keep removing sticks until you find which one is bad or download and run memtest86.

http://www.memtest86.com/download.html

You will need to unzip the iso image from the file and then burn the image to a cd and then boot to the cd and memtest will automatically run.

Thanks for your help. I ran MenTest -86, it passed, made a ISO copy of the OS, replaced the HD with another refurbished one, the OS loaded. Don't know which one did the job, none the less the desktop is up and running. The only thing left is drivers for the LAN & Audio.
