Can I put XP on a Hard drive in a working PC and install it in a PC I'm building? The reason why i ask is because I keep getting the following error message when I try to load XP up on a mew Mobo

F:\Dosmenu.Bat Missing

along with NTLDR is missing

So I was thinking if I could load XP onto the HD from my working PC and put that HD into the one I'm working on, would that work?

might take some registry tweaking, and you're gonna have a lot of garbage drivers collected in the registry and system folders, but it MIGHT work

you'd obviously be better off doing a fresh install, but it's worth a shot

I decided to put the HD into a working PC and install XP that way. So I installed the OS and plugged it back into the PC I'm working on. I changed the boot order from CD-Rom to IDE 0, and I get the a blue screen with a long message and this is included

Page_Fault_IN_Nonpaged_Area

"If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer"

There is more on the screen but I could not write fast enough to write it down. So I'm making progress at least

What can I do to fix this?

As long as I have the right code then the problem you have is the that the data that the OS is looking for in not found in your memory and usually means your memory is defective, but it could be any memory (L1/L2 Cache etc.)

What I would suggest is to re-seat your RAM, GFX Card, then un-plug your HDD, re-seat your memory and run the computer until the POST tests are done then power down and connect the hard drive again.

If the problem is still there please try and find the error code when you get the blue screen, it's usually before you get "Page_Fault_IN_Nonpaged_Area
" it starts with 0x00000

Hope this helps.

Ok the codes I found are as follows

0x00000050, (0xFB2FF7C0,0X0000000,0X804AB7CF,0X00000000)
0x00000050 (0xFA7E7E6B,0x00000000,0xFA7E7E6B,0x00000000)

Now after messing around abit and putting the XP disk in to try and run XP repair I also got the following errors

File Nvraid.sys is corrupted

File\I386\halaacpi.dll could not be loaded
Error code is 7
