Local Account vs Microsoft account

Ok, so I've been preparing for the release of windows 10 by doing a few backups, etc so that if I decide to install it I can do so at a moments notice.

I have never used windows 8 or the insider preview so i never realized that that there was a choice of accounts when setting up the new Windows OSs.

Could someone please help to clarify what the main differences, advantages/disadvantages,why you would/would not use one or the other, etc are of each one as I've looked around and although there is plenty of info out there, most of it is not very clear and usable.

Thanks in advance.

A local account acts just like any other account you've had on Windows 7, etc.

If you use a Microsoft account for your user on the PC, then it's one password for anything Microsoft related. You use your Microsoft email account and password to log in.
