Locked BIOS

hey, on my computer ( a standard, non upgraded gateway 700 series desktop =[) i installed speedfan hoping to be able to speed up my fans, well when i try to, nothing happens, fan RPM's stay the same.

so i thought that maybe there was a "lock fan speed" setting in my BIOS , so i went there to try to find it and change it and i couldn't find anything.

i also noticed while i was there that on the "main" page when i would scroll down the list heading towards my processor settings, after the HT technology setting, it skipped all the way down to language, skipping bus speeds, cock multiplier etc.

i figure this means gateway has so fortunately locked my fan speeds and BIOS settings (understandable). so i was wandering if there was anything i could do to unlock my BIOS or to be able to change my fan speeds, any help is appreciated.

thanks in advance,

Thats the problem with buying a prebuilt system. Most of the bios settings are locked to where you can't overclock or in your case, change the fan speed. You would have to figure out a way to wire in a speed controller for the fans if you really wanted to do it.

dang that really sucks.

i was hopping there was like a hacked update or something weird like that.

is it possible to get a new BIOS? or would it put the whole computer at risk?

The only way to get a bios is to go to the manufacturer of the computer for it and they won't have one to unlock it.
