how can i tell if my BIOS is locked in my Compaq Presario? im wondering because i want 2 get a faster CPU 4 here, and dont want 2 buy 1 and have it not work, im not sure what the highest MHZ this mobo will support either, anybody know if older Compaqs have locked BIOS? thanks.

The locked BIOS shouldnt matter iwhen upgrading to a faster cpu, being locked really only effects overclocking. However some boards cant accept a faster cpu then what they came with, so you need to google your motherboard name and then see if you can find the max cpu speed it will accept.

It's probably got an intel 430 chipset. There's not much you can do, you have to find a socket 7 CPU that's faster then what you have

100MHz FSB, Super Socket 7 is what it is right now. There's not a whole lot of choice there ;)

Its hard to have an intel chipset with an AMD K6... at least at the same time.

this is what i dont know, please clear this up if i get it wrong, im not good with AMD's, ok, all my pc's are Intel P3 processors, and my Compaq is a AMD, would that be a Intel Pentium processor? or just AMD? because i noticed it dont have no type of Intel sticker on the front of the case.
